GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING UNIT (ERUCHALU MARY C)

The guidance and Counseling unit ensures that the school facilities are effectively utilized for the total development of the individual students to enable him or her live a more fulfilling life. It also deals with programs on persona-social, educational, career development of all students

WHO IS A GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR

A guidance counselor is a personnel employed in a school to advise students and young people so as to make informed choices about their future in relation to education employment or work, training responsibilities and assessing their abilities and potentials

DUTIES OF THE SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELLOR

1. Provide one to one counseling with clients/students to overcome there problems and cope with tough situations
2. Refers students to other professionals /personnel’s in their areas
3. Does guidance interviews, psychometric assessments using other evaluative instruments to discuss, find out their emotional mental or life-style issues.
4. Uses information technology to establish links with employers, relevant agencies and institution to keep up to date information.
Provide a safe, confident and encouraging environment to students/clients and does school admissions.
6. Meditates in a conflict- resolution settings.
7. Participates in staff/management/parents meetings and writes reports for students, parents and other educational professionals.
8. To provide an appropriate educational program and learning environment that will develop intellectual sound student with good morals and emotion.
